Ola kala!: The Furry Friend Award

Hi, again! I've decided that I'll institute my own Award.

Ola kala!: The Furry Friend Award

Ola kala is a greek phrase that means "everything's good"; it's one of the etymologies that have been proposed for okay (OK). Okey?

Ah, what do you think about it? Here are the rules:
1. This award will be given to bloggys of furry friends that do or have done things to make the world around them a better one. Those actions don't have to be big ones. Sometimes small things are what we need to be a little more happy each day.

2. Each furry friend that receives this award, have to tell 3 things that he or she does or have done to make the world around them better.

3. Each one has to pass it on to another 5 or more furry friends (as many as you want); those furry friends can be cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters or any other furrything.

To receive the award's picture, you can copy the one under the title. The award's picture is from "El Morro", the most important Spanish fortress in Puerto Rico. It's in the Old San Juan. "El Morro" is one of a kind and is considered a World Heritage Site. To know more about it you can read here.

Now, I'll start with my list.

What do I do?
1. I purr every night to Mom and show her my tummy when she's working at the computer.
This makes her relax before going to bed.
2. I give kisses everytime Mom asks for them.
3. Mom and I donate money to a local group that rescue homeless animals, get them to the vet
and find them new homes in the island or even overseas.

You see? It's not hard!

Now, the furry friends to receive this award:
1. Albert the Cat: http://albertthecat.blogspot.com/

An Award for my Blog!

My dear and good friend Maximus honored me with an Award: The Honest Scrap Award. Thank you, my friend, finally someone recognizes my bloggy.

Well, now I have to tell 10 things that nobody knows about me and pass the award to other 10 blogs.

Ok, here we go:
1. I wasn't adopted, I was bought (cheap, because I was mix) at a pet shop. I was with all my bothers and sisters, but Mom choose me.
2. I was little, skinny, no one expected that I would grow to be so big, if the pet owner would just imagine I would be so beautiful, he would have charge much more.
3. I was the only one with blue eyes of all my bothers and sisters, they all had green eyes.
4. When they brought me home I had ticks and fleas. My human sisters bath me regularly and
gave me medicine for that. I don't have that problem since then.
5. Mom had to wait three months until I accepted Prince, my stepbro. I didn't want him at all.
6. It's ok with me to go to the Vet, I don't mind needles and usually like the medicines if the taste good.
7. I hate when they cut my long fur and hate much more to be bath.
8. Almost every day I seat by my Mom's side (sometimes at her lap) and let her know how much I love her, I give her nosetaps and let her caress me. We get along great, except when I want to hang out and the doesn't let me.
9. I love to eat and I eat any kind of cat food. My Mom buys diet food for me because of what she calls my weight problem. I only weight 18 pounds, that's husky, not fat, right? I recognize which is my food from my stepbro's Prince and I don't eat his as long I have food on my plate. Prince does the same.
10. I'm afraid of Kala (the only dog I am afraid of) one of my stepsis. She's grumpy. I always try to be at a safe distance from her. I really don't trust herbecause she would yap at anyone.

Now, 10 other bloggys to receive the Award:
1. Confusius Cat: http://confuciuscat.blogspot.com/
2. A Smile a Day: http://ariel-asmileaday.blogspot.com/
3. Cats Who Twitter: http://catswhotwitter.blogspot.com/
4. Epic's Journal: http://epicthecat.blogspot.com/
5. Floof and Fur: http://floofandfur.blogspot.com/
6. Boris Kitty: http://boriskitty.blogspot.com/
7. Call Me the Breeze: http://kittehboi.blogspot.com/
8. Buddy's Blog: http://buddybentley.blogspot.com/
9. House of Cats: http://houseofcats-amy.blogspot.com/

Do you know what? I like this award-giving thing. I think I'll institute an award, too. I'll think about it.

An unfortunate event...

Hi, I'm Liah, one of Piru's stepsisters (between us, I don't like that label, I prefer just sister). I'm writing today in behalf of Piru, who is hiding under the dinner table and don't want to come out, even to write today's entry.
I'm supposed to write about the unfortunate event that sent Piru under the table. Instead, I'll write about me, since I'm the princess of the house and I'm so beautiful...
- Ejem...

What? Okey, Mom, I'll write about Piru because this is not my blog (can you sense my attitude?). Why don't you make Prince do it? Because he doesn't care, I know.

Well, then, here we go. Last night Piru was in his hang out time at the backyard. He was minding his own business, as so was Prince. Mom and I were at the couch, watching America's Funniest Home Videos and the other two girls were sleeping. We were all happy doing relaxing things. Suddenly, we heard a cat's cry and a loud meaw and then another and then another, all very loud. Mom jumped from the cough and ran towards the balcony calling Piru and Prince out loud. She didn't see any of them, but the meaws were still going. So she ran down stairs to the backyard and ran towards the sound. With all those screams, Mom running and all the confusion that even I got scared myself and hid behind the sofa.

After the meaws stopped, Mom saw Piru coming from the front of the house, looking really scared and running so low that he was almost crawling. Then, she found Prince hiding under a car.

First, she thought that Prince was fighting. But he was cool, he came up to the house and went to his dinner plate to eat. But Piru, oh, poor Piru was still very shakey and have been nervous until then. So, apparently, the fight was with him. When he came indoors he inmediately looked for a place to hide and eventually got under the table. His eyes were still wide open and his ears were leaning backward. I think this demostrates that he's loyal to his motto: "It's better to be an alive mouse than a dead lion". It's no wonder he tried to sleep in the bed with Mom. That can be a big problem, because the only one who can sleep with Mom is me and nobody else.

Enough about Piru, let's write about me now.

- Ejem...

But, Moooooooommmmm... he never writes about meeeeeeeee. Ok, just a few lines. Thanks, Mom!

Recently, I had an unfortunate event too. I got some kind of "ball", a little one, on my neck. Mom noticed it when she took me for grooming. She didn't noticed it before because my hair was long. So, she asked the vet to look it up. He took a sample and sent it to the lab. He told Mom that it could be many things, including cancer. Oh, that was like a bomb for my poor Mom. She got so sad and cried the day the vet call her to go to the office to show her the results. I told Mom not to worry because I was gonna be fine. We animals do know these things, but humans don't understand that. Anyway, we went to the vet's office and he told Mom that I only had an abscess, try to empty it and sent me home with some antibiotics. The only problem now is that I HATE pills, so Mom has to find ways to make me swallow those pills. So, Mom, don't worry anymore, I'm gonna be as healthy as ever and I'm gonna love you for many- many years to come.

As Piru says, "Ola kala!".

I am not mad anymore...

Today, Mom let me hang out as much as I wanted. I was freed from the fun park at 7:30 am and was out until 11:00 am. Then I went to sleep until 3:00 pm. After that time I was free to go around and Mom let me outside until 9:00 pm. The reason of so much time outside was that today is a holiday and Mom was at home.
So I was thinking, whats the use of being mad with the person that treats me so nice. I understand that if I was left to do whatever I want I would get in trouble. I would be lost from the many times I wondered off.

Here is a picture of me with Mom, see that I am over with my tantrum?
Ola kala!

I'm furious. HISSSSS!!!

MRRRLIAOOOUUUUUUU, ARGH!!!
Yes, as you can see, I'm furious. Why? I'll tell you why!

Yesterday was a happy day. It was Valentine's Day! I received a post card from Niqqi and everything was perfect. So, I decided to take a nap- of course- and went to my Fun Park, because it's cool and dark in an area behind some boxes. I always sleep until around 3:00 PM, and wake up starving. So, I woke up and, what do you think? I was trapped! Mom closed the door of the Fun Park early! As I was sleeping, she served more water and food on my dinner station at the Fun Park, closed it before I woke up and left for a concert she wanted to attend.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!?

I was left there alone- well, with my stepbro Prince, but being with him is like being alone. I had food and everything, but I didn't have time for my afternoon hang out in the neighborhood. And, to make it even worst, she didn't come home until midnight, so I had to stayed there until today!

Oh, she's gonna pay for this!

I was sooooo mad, that I kicked some boxes. When she opened the door this morning she found a mess at the Fun Park. It's not so fun now, ah? During the day, I'm gonna get back at her, I'm gonna do everything that pissess her off. I started already. As soon as she opened the door, I headed out so fast that she only could see a blur. After a while I went to the front door that is always closed and knocked. As soon as she opened it, I ran away, after all,I didn't want to come in anyway. Later, I entered at the back door. Mom received me by calling me in a lovely way, I only looked at her and sat down. So, she ran to the kitchen and served my daily ration of salmon dinner, warmed it up and put the dish in front of me. I looked at it, then looked at her and walked away. After that I thought that it was a mistake to leave that salmon dinner and came back, but there was my sassy stepbro, Prince, devouring it. Now I'm even more furious!!!

I have to have my revenge!
What do you think about it? Should I get back at Mom for leaving me trapped all afternoon and night while she was hanging out? What can I do?

Not feeling so Ola kala today.

I've got mail!

Yesssssss, I've got mail! My first mail ever, and my first St. Valentine's card from my dear friend Niqqi. It's a beautiful card, I'm so touch.
I'm so excited!!!
My human brother went to the post office and found the post card. Inmediately, he called Mom and told her that there was mail for "Mr. Pirulo Furry", he couldn't belive it. Ja, ja.

Here I'm with my post card from Niqqi.

And here I'm reading it. As you can see, I still don't need glasses.

And, do you know what? Prince was jealous, he was asking why he didn't get a post card, too. He even tried to take mine!

Well, Niqqi, you have made me very very happy. Thanks a lot.

Prince's true story

My brother Prince- the romantic one, like Mom calls him- has a very interesting story. He told me himself. I couldn't believe him at first, but then some personality- or catnality- traits have shown me the truth in his words.

He wasn't always a cat. He was a real humanoid prince. Can you believe it? It's like a fairy tale!
Here's the story.

Prince used to be the prince of a far- far away planet named Katana (I think I've heard that before). He lived in it's capital called Catalonia. It's a beautiful place fill with flowers and lots of birds where the prawns are always free (my friend Albert The Cat would love to live there). They also have a forest of catnip trees (that's why he doesn't like catnip now, because it makes him remember his home). People there are cat-like humanoids with pointy pink ears, whiskers, a tail, two toned eyes (like Prince) and white hair. (A very important note: this story is not related to the movie Avatar.)

Prince's name was Neko and he had a warrior sister named Nike. His father, Félin the King, was a good ruler and loved their people. Prince had servants that made everything for him (well, that part isn't so different from now). He even had a fiancée called Kathya, who was the most beautiful of all the inhabitants. Neko was famous for his bendable body, he could bend in almost any position he wanted; he was a big star. He maintains that ability, Mom calls him "the dripping cat".

Neko's (Prince) life was perfect, but it would change abruptly. His father, Félin the King, felt in love with Dogma, a Queen of another planet named Dogwood. She was a beautiful dog-like humanoid, with blond fur, long ears, long snout with big canines and an always wagging tail. Anyway, at first she was a good Queen, but some months later, some wicked advisors made her overambitious and then she became Machiavellian, too.

Prince's father became ill because of a problem with hairballs. If Félin the King dies, Neko would become King, but Dogma didn't wanted that, she wanted to rule both words: Katana and Dogwood. That's why, one night, while Neko was taking a short nap before his night milk, Dogma poured a small amount of a liquid with a spell that turned Neko into a cat, loosing his other humanoid traits. Kathya tried to warn Neko about the evilness of Dogma, but he was too lazy to do something about it. Oh, he has always been lazy!

So, Neko became a simple cat and Dogma sent him to earth in a meteor, just like Superman!
A female cat found him wandering around in a farm and took him as part of her new born kitten. But the family she lived with, didn't wanted more cats and give him for adoption in front of a near Wal-Mart. Mom was walking in front of the store that day and those people offered that little white cat that she couldn't resist. That's how he came to my house.

When he was little, was so delicate and beautiful that Mom thought he was a she and called him Princess. Oh, how I laughted, because I knew from the first smell that he was a boy, but I didn't say anything. When Mom took him to the vet, he told her the truth and Mom had to change the name to Prince.

That's Prince's story. The only way he can remove the spell is if he finds a female pitbull that kisses him under a truck. And that's almost impossible, because Prince is terrified of both things.

Prince dreams of freedom, that's the only thing he can do. But his life is not so bad, after all, he still has his servants, so do I.

I also have a story, but I'll tell you about it another day. Maybe just a tip: I was a king.

I was lost, but Mom found me

Have I told you about the time I got lost for a few days? Oh, it was awful for me and Mom. I got lost on Mom's birthday, many years ago. She cried and cried for three days non stopped.

You know, since little I have this habit of wondering off to see what's on the other side of the fence. This has let to problems, specially on this ocassion.

This is the story. It was on December, and they were throwing a lot of very loud fireworks. I got very scared and wondered off. Mom started to look for me walking and walking around the block. Since she didn't find me, she made a posted note with my picture telling the neighbors that she was willing to pay $300.00 for my rescue. The note said: "Have you seen this cat? His name is Piru and he's missing. Please, if you find him, call me at xxx-xxxx. I will give $300.00 for the reward".

Every one seem interested in looking for me. But not because of the money (which was good) but by pure compassion. They saw my mothers red eyes by crying so much, sad and walking several times, day and night, up and down the neighborhoods' streets.

At day three, a daughters' neighbor saw me (I was hidden in the bushes) in front of the street where she lived and call my mother at 12:00 midnight. She immediately went with the neighbors down the street and picked me up. I was relieved she came. I had not eaten for three days and was very scared. My Mom's eyes were filled with loved as she approached me. I've never seen her so happy. After that horrible experience my Mom started a plan to seek ways to keep me inside the house. They all failed.

Once, she began to open the water hose and throw the water at the door pretending it was pouring rain because she knows I hate to get wet. That was stupid, I ran to the other door that was dry. The problem was, she or my human brother was able to throw water at one door at a time. So, that didn't work at all. She also tried to bring toys, none help.

To make the story short, after those incidents she created what she call, "a fun park", where I have limited space I can go walking (I think, where's the fun?). I liked it a little, but after a while I got bored and wanted to go out.

My Mom always says "he's so domineering, he wants everything to be as he wants". Well, what does she expect? I have a mind of my own and I love to be free. What's wrong with that?

Below are some pictures of the first fun park. There have been already 5 versions of it. Each time we move, it gets better. Anyway, I still prefer to be free as the wind.

I understand her wishes to keep me safe, but I love to hang out, discover new territories. Like yesterday, I went to a new house on my block, Mom called out my name and I did not answer. She got in her car and went to pick me up. Oh God, was she mad. She got me into the car and while she was driving she began telling me that if I continue that way I was gonna get lost again. After that she didn't spoke to me for the rest of the night. You can imagine how pissed she was.

So that's always our fight, in the other areas we get along great. She gives me a lot of love, good food and keeps me healthy. But I think she doesn't understand my need to walk around and look for new territories. What do you think? I would like you to tell me the truth. So please comment on this important issue.

Birdwatching

Hi! Finally, I'm back in business. Well, not really business, but you know what I mean. My grandpa is better and I'm returning to my old routine.

For example, today I was birdwatching and I saw this beautiful yellow and black bird that I was singing to me. Pretty as he was,I would have eaten him, but he was too high in the tree. Anyway, I was relax, sitting in the grass, listening to the little birddie and just hanging out. Then I remembered a video I saw on Youtube the other day. It was "Earth Song", by Michael Jackson. I searched for that video after I saw the Grammy's program the other day where some famous artists sang that song. Have you watch that video? I got scare while I was watching it. So many bad things that humans are doing to the planet, why is that?. I thought it was a new video, but the artist did it almost 15 years ago. I think that humans can learn a lot from animals.

Animals eat, make their homes and nests, play and live simply, but most important, we don't harm the planet. We don't need policemans, banks or politicians, but we live mostly in peace with all that we need.

There were sooooooon many questions that came to my mind while I was watching that video that I felt asleep. You know, too much thinking can be exhausting. But, there's some thing that I'm sure about: I would like to live in a world full of trees with birds, with blue skies, happy animals and healthy people.

I would like to know what do you think about this. Please, leave a comment.
