Rescues and shelters in Puerto Rico

Here in Puerto Rico, most people love pets. You can find at least one pet in almost every family house. It can be a dog, a cat, birds, fishes, hamsters and others not so "normal", like pigs, horses, gigantic lizards and many more.

But, there are other people that don't like animal, even hate them. How can anybody hate this face?
Anyway, there are people, too, that love animals so much that try to help the ones less fortunate. There are many-many animal rescues and welfare organizations in Puerto Rico. Here's web page with a list of many of them: saveasato.org .

There's another one: P.A.W.S., The Puerto Rico Animal Welfare Society. I've been there, it's in the beach! There's a vet that save homeless animals, takes care of them and find them homes, even in the U.S.A, so there are fellow puertorican furry friends all over the universe... ok, maybe not all over the universe, but in the U.S.

Anyway, the problem is that all those shelters are not enough to receive all homeless animals. People have to be more considerate and responsible with their pets, take care of them and never abandon them to their fate. After all, we are humans best friends.

What do you think about this?

Ola kala!: The Furry Friend Award

Hi, again! I've decided that I'll institute my own Award.

Ola kala!: The Furry Friend Award

Ola kala is a greek phrase that means "everything's good"; it's one of the etymologies that have been proposed for okay (OK). Okey?

Ah, what do you think about it? Here are the rules:
1. This award will be given to bloggys of furry friends that do or have done things to make the world around them a better one. Those actions don't have to be big ones. Sometimes small things are what we need to be a little more happy each day.

2. Each furry friend that receives this award, have to tell 3 things that he or she does or have done to make the world around them better.

3. Each one has to pass it on to another 5 or more furry friends (as many as you want); those furry friends can be cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters or any other furrything.

To receive the award's picture, you can copy the one under the title. The award's picture is from "El Morro", the most important Spanish fortress in Puerto Rico. It's in the Old San Juan. "El Morro" is one of a kind and is considered a World Heritage Site. To know more about it you can read here.

Now, I'll start with my list.

What do I do?
1. I purr every night to Mom and show her my tummy when she's working at the computer.
This makes her relax before going to bed.
2. I give kisses everytime Mom asks for them.
3. Mom and I donate money to a local group that rescue homeless animals, get them to the vet
and find them new homes in the island or even overseas.

You see? It's not hard!

Now, the furry friends to receive this award:
1. Albert the Cat: http://albertthecat.blogspot.com/

Prince's day at the vet

Today, mom didn't care much about me. She took Prince to the vet and that's work for the entire day. Apparently, Prince has an allergy or a rash. He's been scratching himself and pulling out his own fur for some days now. So, mom decided to take him to the Vet today. Somehow, Prince found out about mom's plans (it wasn't me) and disappeared early in the morning. Mom was calling and calling him for a long time, but he wasn't around. I was taking a nap, so I couldn't help her look for him.

Finally, mom saw Prince at the neighbors' backyard. They weren't there, so she had to call him and offer him some snacks and wait until he climbed the wall. Now that I'm thinking about it: I wasn't far away, why wasn't I offered some of those snacks? Anyway, that was just the begining of mom's odyssey to take Prince to the vet.

Prince hates cars, the pet taxi, the vet, the vet's office and needles. So, his little trip was an awful experience, specially since the doctor is an hour away. He even tried to escape at the vet's office, but mom knows how to handle him. It's not that I care much if he gets lost, but I don't want to see mom feeling sad.

Now, he has to drink twice a day the antibiotics the Vet prescribed, and that's another story. You see, I drink everything, medicine, food, snacks. But Prince is not like me, he hates medicines and Mom has to struggle a lot to put anything in his mouth. So poor Mom, she will be having this nigtmare twice a day for quite some time.

The vet also thinks that Prince has an allergy, so he prescribed some medicines. Apparently, Prince will be fine soon. Good for him. The only thing in this story that makes me happy is that it wasn't me the one who was taken to the Vet.

Oh, my... I have a blog!

Yeah, it's the truth, I have a new blog. You never know what a cat can do next, right? Well, I decided to start it because the world has the right to know all the wisdom that us cats, as neutral and objectives individuals can contribute. After all, in my humble opinion, we cats are the most intelligent creatures in this earth, although we don't have opposible thumbs. Anyway, my life experiences will be mirrored here for you to enjoy and to learn something if you want. For now, have a nice day!
