Oh, today was a really hard day, I worked a lot!!!  What was I doing?  I was at the kitchen aaaaaalllllll day, cooking and cooking because my human brother and sisters were coming to dinner. Here's what I cooked:

Arroz con gandules (rice and green pigeon peas). Recipe: http://www.elboricua.com/arroz_con_gandules.html

I added a banana leaf for more flavor.

Roasted turkey with lots of garlic.  Mmm, delicious!

Potato salad with onions, apples and a lot more.

And for dessert: tembleque.  Recipe: http://www.elboricua.com/tembleque.html

My family was all very happy with all the food.  Well, my work here is done, now it's time for a very well deserve nap.

Oh, I'm exhausted.

Rescues and shelters in Puerto Rico

Here in Puerto Rico, most people love pets. You can find at least one pet in almost every family house. It can be a dog, a cat, birds, fishes, hamsters and others not so "normal", like pigs, horses, gigantic lizards and many more.

But, there are other people that don't like animal, even hate them. How can anybody hate this face?
Anyway, there are people, too, that love animals so much that try to help the ones less fortunate. There are many-many animal rescues and welfare organizations in Puerto Rico. Here's web page with a list of many of them: saveasato.org .

There's another one: P.A.W.S., The Puerto Rico Animal Welfare Society. I've been there, it's in the beach! There's a vet that save homeless animals, takes care of them and find them homes, even in the U.S.A, so there are fellow puertorican furry friends all over the universe... ok, maybe not all over the universe, but in the U.S.

Anyway, the problem is that all those shelters are not enough to receive all homeless animals. People have to be more considerate and responsible with their pets, take care of them and never abandon them to their fate. After all, we are humans best friends.

What do you think about this?

José De Diego's Day

Today was a holiday in Puerto Rico. We were celebrating the birth of one of the most important thinkers of the island: José De Diego. He was born in the city I live, Aguadilla, but many- many years ago. He was so many things: politician, thinker, educator, poet, jurist, journalist, essayist and orator. In education, he founded the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez, where many engineers study, even some that actually work at the NASA. How can a person do so many things?... I don't know, I'm tired already. If José De Diego have heard me, he would recite me one of his most known poems: En la brecha, that encourage people not to become lazy but to act for the things they want. Well, you can learn more about José De Diego in the links I've already marked in the text (the information is in English).

Famous cats

YYYYYYYAAAAAAWWWWWWMMMMNNNNN..... arg!

Oh, hi! Here I am... bored. Mom went out to work aaaaaallllll daaaayyyy.
I'm not gonna complain, somebody has to earn money to buy cat food.

I stayed alone all day, well, there were my stepbro and sis, but they don't socialize if Mom's not around. So I decided to do something by myself. Since I liked so much the history lesson Albert The Cat gave the other day in his blog, I decided to find out something interesting in that area. What can be more interesting than the history of cats in my country, Puerto Rico. So I headed up to Mom's library to check her books.

Nothing there. It's shameful. Then, I had to use the Internet. Let's see... mmm.... aja.....ohhh... *yawwwwwnn*.... nop.....nop......nop.... nothing here....oh, what is that? I don't know what they are doing, but it's not related to cats. *Blushing*, change it, change it, change it!!!

Well, no luck so far. But I did find something interesting: A list of names of famous cats. Go ahead and see if yours is there. Mine isn't, so I have the oportunity to be the first one.

My trip into the island of Puerto Rico

I love to travel and Mom loves it, too. She doesn't have too much time for it, but she does some trips at vacation time. Puerto Rico, where I live, has many beautiful places to go.

This time we went to the mountains of Puerto Rico. We visited Moca, San Sebastián, Lares, Utuado, Jayuya, Adjuntas and Orocovis. There were beautiful landscapes. It was a very relaxing trip. Go to my album in Picasa to see many of the pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/pirulofurry/MyTripToTheMountainsOfPuertoRico?feat=email#
Here are some pics as a preview.

And here you can see the route Mom followed:
