Write a Post, Help a Dog!

Do you want to help a homeless dog? If you have a blog of any kind, you only have to write a post to help a dog from now through September 19 and Pedigree will donate a 20-pound bag of food to an animal shelter (please Pedigree, don't forget about Puerto Rican dogs).

It's sooooo easy: write a post, that's it!

Just include the bullets listed here, and add the direct link to your blog post to our Blog Hop below so we can all see how big an impact we are making! (And it's big!)
  • Each year, more than 4 million dogs end up in shelters and breed rescue organizations. Pedigree created The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive to help shine a spotlight on the plight of these homeless dogs.
  • This year the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive is raising awareness for homeless dogs by donating a bowl of food to shelter dogs for everyone who becomes a "Fan" or "Likes" the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive on Facebook. So far more than 1 million bowls have been donated.

  • Special for BlogPaws West: For each blog that posts about the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive through September 19, PEDIGREE will donate a bag of its new Healthy Longevity Food for Dogs to shelters nationwide. It's simple: Write a post, help a dog.
  • Thursday, September 16 through Sunday, September 19, the Pedigree BlogPaws bloggers will host a Blog Hop to help raise awareness for the "Write a post, help a dog" effort.
Tell as many of your blogger friends as you can, so we can help even more dogs. And if you don't have a blog, please tweet about this using the hashtag #dogsrule, re-tweet this post, or share on Facebook to help spread the word even further!

About pets, love and abandonment

Strange title, isn't it? I just want to share some insights about this issue.

A few days ago, my Mom went to a government agency and saw this puppy in the parking lot. The puppy, a mix dog with beautiful light blue eyes, was playing with everyone that arrived to the parking. Mom saw that she was running with some children and was jumping around to meet everyone. In short, she was a happy puppy... because she was too young to know what had happen to her: she was abandoned by her former family. One of the agency's employees told Mom that the puppy was dumped there like two or three days before. Mom though of taking the puppy and find her a home, but the puppy was gone when she came out of the office.

I think that some people misunderstand the importance of having a pet in the family. And I will talk particularly about dogs now. For many people, human relationships are hard to maintain in peace for long periods of time. Some say that love declines through the years and even some people end up hating each other. So, many decide to have a dog for a reason: they need someone that gives them unconditional love no matter their looks or age; someone that waits for them even an entire day and receives them with a party; someone that fully trusts them and remains devoted to their master even if mistreated. Many people can't find some or even most of those characteristics in many human relationships; but they can find all of them in a single dog.

People that dump their pets, specially dogs, don't realize that they are throwing away maybe the only opportunity to have a perfect relationship in their entire life. Those people are throwing away a furry symbol of faith, devotion, forgiveness and, specially, love.

The people that dumped the happy puppy will never know the meaning of real happiness. I just hope that the happy puppy will find someone else worth of her.

I have been blessed, every time Mom moves from place to place, she always bring us with her no matter how difficult it have been for her and for us. We appreciate her unconditional love, and that is why I often think about this issue.

Can you, my friends, share your thoughts with me about this issue?

I WON, I WON!!!

YESSSSSSSS!!! I knew it, I'm the most handsome of the house. I got 11 votes vs. Prince, that had only 7. And I'm suspecting that he forced some people to vote for him. I'm still trying to find out who changed their vote and if someone voted more than once. Well, anyway, I'm not gonna be all stressed about that because, at the end of the day, I AM THE WINNER!
Prince: Yeah, yeah...
Piru: Oh, you're around. Did you come to congratulate me?
Prince: Not really, I came to eat.
Piru: Anyway, what do you have to say as been the defeated.
Prince: You know? I don't care. No, seriously, I really don't. Do you know why? Because I have a healthy self-esteem. I don't need any survey or anyone to tell me if I'm handsome or not because I know I am. So, do you need a statement? Here it is: (shows his paw).
Piru: Oh, my!
A voice: Piru and Prince!
Piru and Prince: What? Who's there?
A voice: You are brothers. You two know that you love each other and care for the other one. If that's not the case, why did Prince defended you when that cat came to hurt him? And Piru, why did you..., well, you always...., ummmm, I mean, you do..... Anyway, you got accustomed to Prince. You are family, even you like it or not. And I know that both of you want to make your Mom happy, is this correct or not?
Piru and Prince: Yes!
A voice: Then, make peace between you two and behave.
Prince: I suppose I can do that.
Piru: All right, I think I can do that, too.
A voice: Glad to hear you agree with me. Bye.
Prince: Who was that voice?
Piru: I don't know. But, forget it. Do you want to go celebrate my victory?
Prince: I don't think so.
Piru: Well, then, just hang out at the front yard.
Prince: That seems all right.

A voice: And then, Piru and Prince went to the front yard to relax a little bit before Mom calls them to eat. It was a beautiful afternoon. Most of the sky was blue, but just a few little clouds that let go some light showers to cool the temperature. The wind was coming from north and bringing also a shower of little yellow leaves, each one with a drop of rain that, with the reflection of the sun, seemed like floating diamonds. It was perfect: fresh air, cool temperature, the smell of flowers and two strange dogs coming down the street...
WHAT?!!!! TWO STRANGE DOGS COMING TO OUR HOUSE?!!!

Prince: RUUUN, RUUUUUNNNNN!!!!
Piru: What? Oh! MOOOOOOOMMMM, OPEEEEEN THE DOOOOOOORRRRR!!!!!

Some days are hard to be all Ola kala!

Prince's true story

My brother Prince- the romantic one, like Mom calls him- has a very interesting story. He told me himself. I couldn't believe him at first, but then some personality- or catnality- traits have shown me the truth in his words.

He wasn't always a cat. He was a real humanoid prince. Can you believe it? It's like a fairy tale!
Here's the story.

Prince used to be the prince of a far- far away planet named Katana (I think I've heard that before). He lived in it's capital called Catalonia. It's a beautiful place fill with flowers and lots of birds where the prawns are always free (my friend Albert The Cat would love to live there). They also have a forest of catnip trees (that's why he doesn't like catnip now, because it makes him remember his home). People there are cat-like humanoids with pointy pink ears, whiskers, a tail, two toned eyes (like Prince) and white hair. (A very important note: this story is not related to the movie Avatar.)

Prince's name was Neko and he had a warrior sister named Nike. His father, Félin the King, was a good ruler and loved their people. Prince had servants that made everything for him (well, that part isn't so different from now). He even had a fiancée called Kathya, who was the most beautiful of all the inhabitants. Neko was famous for his bendable body, he could bend in almost any position he wanted; he was a big star. He maintains that ability, Mom calls him "the dripping cat".

Neko's (Prince) life was perfect, but it would change abruptly. His father, Félin the King, felt in love with Dogma, a Queen of another planet named Dogwood. She was a beautiful dog-like humanoid, with blond fur, long ears, long snout with big canines and an always wagging tail. Anyway, at first she was a good Queen, but some months later, some wicked advisors made her overambitious and then she became Machiavellian, too.

Prince's father became ill because of a problem with hairballs. If Félin the King dies, Neko would become King, but Dogma didn't wanted that, she wanted to rule both words: Katana and Dogwood. That's why, one night, while Neko was taking a short nap before his night milk, Dogma poured a small amount of a liquid with a spell that turned Neko into a cat, loosing his other humanoid traits. Kathya tried to warn Neko about the evilness of Dogma, but he was too lazy to do something about it. Oh, he has always been lazy!

So, Neko became a simple cat and Dogma sent him to earth in a meteor, just like Superman!
A female cat found him wandering around in a farm and took him as part of her new born kitten. But the family she lived with, didn't wanted more cats and give him for adoption in front of a near Wal-Mart. Mom was walking in front of the store that day and those people offered that little white cat that she couldn't resist. That's how he came to my house.

When he was little, was so delicate and beautiful that Mom thought he was a she and called him Princess. Oh, how I laughted, because I knew from the first smell that he was a boy, but I didn't say anything. When Mom took him to the vet, he told her the truth and Mom had to change the name to Prince.

That's Prince's story. The only way he can remove the spell is if he finds a female pitbull that kisses him under a truck. And that's almost impossible, because Prince is terrified of both things.

Prince dreams of freedom, that's the only thing he can do. But his life is not so bad, after all, he still has his servants, so do I.

I also have a story, but I'll tell you about it another day. Maybe just a tip: I was a king.

I AM SWEET!

I'm gonna scratch all over whoever says that I'm not sweet!

As Mom says, I'm a sweet kitty with hair for two or three more. It's her joke.

People are strange creatures. They like dogs because they're loyal. We cats aren't. But they like us anyway because of our sweetness and our ability to make sounds and faces that people can't resist. Do you know that Mom is allergic to me? That's the most strangest thing! On the other hand, who can resist this face?

Or this one?

Or even this one?

What do you think?
